About Samantha

Samantha Skyring is an entrepreneur at heart, she was working 2 jobs at 13, at 19 her dad threw her in the deep end and she headed up an aircraft interior refurbishing business with 30 staff. She then went on to start Kayak Africa on Lake Malawi for which she designed and made all the expedition tents and equipment for the island hopping excursions. Her next passion was an NGO she started, 20,000 drums ’Transformation through Celebration’,  facilitated drumming workshops with children in disadvantaged communities across South Africa, reaching 30,000 children over 7 years. She loves to travel. It was during her 5 month excursion in Namibia, when she walked 120km's through the Namibian desert and had close encounters with the Oryx gazelle that became the  inspiration for the Oryx Desert Salt brand. Samantha started Oryx Desert Salt 12 years ago as a new single mom of her 3 year old son, Kiran. Samantha started packing grinders on her dining room table and on Oryx 10th birthday received a nationalising for Whole Foods USA, her dream retail outlet. She is deeply passionate about sharing and making this healthy essential desert salt available globally, making a difference to people's health and the environment with the reusable long-lasting grinders. Oryx Desert Salt launched nationally in the USA 2 years ago and has supplied 23 countries to date.
